PHA

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are a unique class of biobased and biodegradable polymers produced through microbial fermentation of sucrose. Unlike conventional plastics, PHAs break down naturally, making them an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional plastics. 

Chematur is the exclusive global licensor of Bioextrax PHA technology. The process is an entirely biobased process where PHA is produced in a fermentation process and then extracted biologically in a patented cost-effective method. The unique features of the technology are: 

  • it is completely bio-based, free of chemicals and solvents 
  • it is universal, can work with all PHA producing bacteria and with all PHA types 
  • it has higher biodegradation rate compared to other bioplastics 
  • it produces intact PHA granules, without molecular weight loss and with native amorphicity. 
  • it is a unique and GMO-free process, which increases the conversion rate between sucrose and PHA, allowing for a significantly lower production cost for PHA. 
  • it offers a low production cost through low consumption of energy, water and chemicals. 

it produces valuable co-product: Single- Cell Protein (SCP), which has high commercial potential in applications such as animal feed, human nutrition, and other industries.
